Washington DC Tiny Wedding

I left my house early so I could arrive 30 minutes ahead of time. I exited my Uber, waited to cross the street, and walked toward the DC War Memorial. As I walked up, I saw Shanikka, Yam, and Jeremiah already there.

Upon seeing them, a smile came across my face.

Shanikka was wearing an elegant white off-the-shoulder gown with feathers wrapped around her upper body. She looked stunning.

Her dreadlocks were styled in an updo, with long curled locs cascading along the sides of her face. Her makeup was perfect.

She wore a white veil that gently moved with the wind, adding a softness to the moment.

And her purple and white bouquet, accented with small white flowers and crystal brooches, was fabulous.

The Spiritual Ceremony

The ceremony included a family blending ritual that was originally planned as sand, but the couple chose to blend small pebbles instead.

Pebbles are stronger. They can withstand weight and the test of time. A broom jumping ritual was also included.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the bride, to which her son responded, “I do.”

Yam and Shanikka repeated their vows after me.

That was the moment that stood out.

They recorded the ceremony for posterity, something to always remember and share with family and friends.

This ceremony concluded without the signing of a marriage certificate, as Shanikka had already completed a self-marriage.

I was honored to perform their public spiritual ceremony.

Review

Our experience was truly wonderful from start to finish. From our very first call through ongoing email communication, the officiant provided genuine support and guidance every step of the way. As someone who was unfamiliar with the process and unsure where to begin, I deeply appreciated how Reverend Starlene patiently walked me through the planning with care and professionalism.

I am so happy with my decision to choose her as our officiant. She was punctual, organized, and fully prepared, which brought a sense of ease and confidence to our special day. Her kindness and calm presence made a meaningful difference. My husband and son also appreciated her politeness and support throughout the experience.

I would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a dedicated and compassionate officiant.
