Chanita and Duane

When Chanita called The DC Marriage Knot about getting married at George Washington University Hospital, I was ready to assist. At the time, many thoughts went through my mind as I considered the impact of the government shutdown on couples trying to marry.
The DC Marriage Bureau was shut down.
Fortunately, Mayor Muriel Bowser stepped in and issued a temporary order allowing marriage licenses to be distributed despite the shutdown. This decision meant everything to Chanita and Duane, as it allowed them to marry during an incredibly uncertain time.

Their wedding took place on January 15, 2019.
The staff at GW Hospital was truly inspirational. Duane’s doctor, nurses, and other hospital staff gathered as witnesses. One staff member created a veil for the bride. Another brought her a floral bouquet. The room was filled with care, kindness, and support.
There was so much love present that day.
Sadly, Duane made his transition one week later.
We are here to help families during life’s most tender moments.
